Altris Secures New Funding and Appoints Christer Bergquist as CEO
The Swedish sodium-ion battery developer Altris has secured additional funding of 80.75 MSEK from existing investors. This follow-on investment highlights continued confidence from strategic investors and comes shortly after the appointment of Christer Bergquist as permanent CEO, positioning the company for the next phase of its strategic development.

Since its foundation in 2017, Altris has developed market-leading sodium-ion battery technology, including its proprietary Prussian White cathode material. To advance its strategic development and enable a fully European sodium-ion battery value chain, Altris has completed a new round of funding with participation from existing strategic investors.
The completion of this funding round comes shortly after the appointment of Christer Bergquist as permanent CEO in June 2025. Christer joined Altris in 2023 as CFO and has served as acting CEO since September 2024.
“We are pleased to have appointed Christer as permanent CEO. He has demonstrated strong leadership in evolving market conditions, both during his time as CFO and acting CEO. We have exciting opportunities ahead of us. The board and I look forward to working with Christer as he leads the Altris team through the coming phases of development”, says Martin Anderlind, Chairman of the Board at Altris.
To adapt to current market conditions, Altris is also implementing a strategic realignment. This follows a review of the company’s commercial, operational, and financial priorities, with the aim of focusing resources on areas with the greatest impact and ensuring long-term viability.
As part of this realignment, Altris will increase its focus on partner engagements and commercial project development in collaboration with customers. Therefore, the company will discontinue previous plans for pilot production in Sandviken and will instead consolidate its operations in Uppsala.
“I look forward to continuing in my role as CEO and leading the company through the upcoming stages of our development together with the team and our owners. We are adapting the business to strengthen Altris’ position and to create the right conditions to deliver on our strategy going forward”, says Christer Bergquist.
Altris continues its mission to advance and commercialize sodium-ion battery technology to bring the world a better battery at scale.
